On October 9th, the Congolese community enjoyed an enriching and inspiring field trip to Glendale Community College (GCC), organized in partnership between Arizona State University (ASU) and Mwangaza Wa Upendo. This special event aimed to provide students and parents with valuable insights into the world of higher education, particularly in the fields of engineering and healthcare.

The day kicked off with a warm welcome from the GCC staff, who set the tone for an exciting and educational experience. Our group was introduced to the diverse engineering programs available at the college, with presentations that made complex concepts accessible and engaging. Students and parents were fascinated by hands-on demonstrations and exhibits that showcased the practical applications of engineering principles. The interactive sessions allowed participants to explore the different disciplines within engineering and understand the various career paths available in this dynamic field.

Following the engineering presentations, the focus shifted to healthcare programs. The GCC faculty provided an overview of the wide range of healthcare education opportunities offered at the college, including nursing, medical assisting, health information management, and emergency medical services. The attendees were captivated by the stories shared by current students and alumni, who discussed their journeys and successes within the healthcare industry. These narratives provided a personal touch, highlighting the impact and importance of pursuing a career in healthcare.

One of the highlights of the trip was the opportunity for our students and parents to engage in candid conversations with college students and professors. These interactions offered a realistic glimpse into college life, addressing questions about academic challenges, campus activities, and the balance between studies and personal life. The mentors and faculty from GCC were incredibly supportive, providing advice and encouragement that resonated deeply with our community members.

The field trip was not only educational but also a bonding experience for the Congolese community. It reinforced the significance of higher education and showcased the endless possibilities it offers. The enthusiasm and excitement on the faces of our students and parents were truly heartwarming, as they left the event with a renewed sense of purpose and motivation.

This trip was a significant step in our ongoing efforts to empower the Congolese community through education and support. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Glendale Community College for their hospitality and to ASU and Mwangaza Wa Upendo for organizing this meaningful event. Together, we are paving the way for a brighter future, one educational opportunity at a time.
