School Supplies Distribution
Ensuring that students have the necessary tools for success is a key part of our program. Each year, we distribute backpacks filled with essential school supplies to students in our community. This initiative alleviates the financial burden on families and ensures that students are well-prepared for the school year ahead. By providing these resources, we aim to create an equitable learning environment where all students can thrive. Our school supplies distribution events are not just about handing out backpacks; they are community gatherings that foster a sense of solidarity and support among refugee families. In both Arizona and Michigan, our program includes comprehensive assistance with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to ensure that students maximize their financial aid opportunities. Our team guides students through every step of the application process, making it easier for them to access the funds they need for college. Additionally, we provide detailed information on various scholarships, guiding students through the application process and helping them secure funding for their education. By sharing scholarship opportunities and providing hands-on guidance, we ensure that students have the financial support necessary to pursue their academic dreams.
Workshops and Partnerships
One of the cornerstones of our program is the partnership with Arizona State University (ASU) through the American Dream Academy. These workshops are instrumental in guiding refugee students towards STEM careers, helping them understand how to choose their majors, navigate the complexities of paying for college, and equipping parents with the knowledge to support their children’s academic journeys. In Arizona, during the American Dream Academy Workshop, each participating family receives $1000 for their time, and both students and parents receive certificates upon completion. The workshops include hands-on science activities where participants learn about STEM careers such as Cybersecurity, Engineering, Healthcare, and many more with presentations from professionals in these fields. We are constantly seeking more opportunities like these from different organizations and universities to help support our refugee community.
Field Trips to Universities and Community Colleges
We believe that exposure to higher education institutions is crucial for inspiring students to pursue further education. Our program includes organized field trips to universities and community colleges, allowing students and parents to explore campuses, interact with college students and professors, and gain a realistic understanding of college life. These visits often include hands-on activities that engage students in the learning process and provide a practical glimpse into various academic fields. These experiences demystify the college experience and motivate refugee students to set ambitious academic and career goals.
